‘The King’ puts on a show to break £4000 mark for Lunch on the Run

September 7, 2017

There was a whole lot of ‘Burning Love’ for our recent fundraising evening as Elvis well and truly entered the building in Dudley.

80 people packed into the DY1 Community Building to raise money for our chosen charity ‘Lunch on the Run’, with everyone embracing the Vegas-themed sold-out event.

Guests were greeted by our fabulous doorman Paul Dewick (who kindly gave his time to help out on the night), before being escorted along the red-carpet by our MD Michelle Davies to the Bucks Fizz Drinks Reception and a special casino setting where souvenir photos were taken by Timeless Photography.

As the room filled and raffle tickets were purchased, our guests tucked into the wonderful food that was prepared by the staff at Lunch on the Run and served on a roulette style platter – giving each table their own buffet selection.

Then it was time for the main attraction…Mark Green, one of the UK’s leading Elvis tribute acts, made sure there was ‘a little less conversation’ and a lot more dancing as he got everybody up enjoying themselves. He even brought the house down with a legendary encore and posed for photos, before a disco took us to the end of the night.

Michelle Davies was delighted with how it went: “There was a real buzz about the evening and I think it’s safe to say everyone had a really good time. Better still we managed to raise lots of money for Lunch on the Run, taking the total this year to an outstanding £4350.

“This wouldn’t be possible without our fantastic workforce, our friends, our suppliers and our customers who have all pulled together to make this event a success. The only question left is what to do next…The Beetles anyone?”

Candidate Source would like to thank the following organisations for generously donating prizes for the raffle.

  • Jobsite – Fortnum and Mason hamper
  • Guardian Jobs – John Lewis vouchers
  • West Midlands Safari Park – Admission tickets
  • Laser Quest Stourbridge – Complimentary game pass
  • Monmore Green Greyhound Racing – Admission and race card for six people
  • CV Library – Various gift vouchers, wine and a chocolate hampers.

Dudley-based Lunch on the Run currently supports 17 people with learning disabilities, providing them with training, life skills and important work experience in their catering business or coffee shop.

The latter has enjoyed a whirlwind first year after it opened its doors in the town centre and now provides shoppers, workers and tourists with a range of cold/hot drinks and great tasting cakes and snacks, including sandwiches, soups, salads and jacket potatoes.
